One of the principles by which I live my life is from Cathie Black: “Make difficult decisions sooner.” The first time I heard her say it in 2007 my life changed dramatically: it prompted me to resign as managing editor for the NW Women’s Journal.

Years later I started a business with a friend but made the difficult decision to bow out less than four months in. That gave me the opportunity to organize for Pete Buttigieg in 2019. Couldn’t have done it otherwise.

The most recent thing I quit was a book I was reading for book club.

I’ve learned that it’s not so much the decision itself, but what I make it mean that can cause me pain.

I talk about all of this and more times I’ve quit in episode 9 of the podcast. Listen now. It’s less than ten minutes.

What about you? Are you a quitter? What’s the last thing you quit?
