Who knew that Episode 25, What I wish I knew at 19 instead of 59, would be such a hit?! So popular, in fact, that I’ve received multiple requests to do another one only this time to my 37-year-old sef. So, without further ado, here you go:
- Get your facial hair lasered. Those three small hairs you pluck every other week will multiply like fruit flies. And once they turn grey–because yes, that’s a thing–you’ll have fewer options.
- You’re about to meet one of your best friends. Savor every moment, because she’ll be taken too soon.
- Stay out of tanning beds.
- Don’t settle.
- State the obvious. It may only be obvious to you.
- Getting paid by the hour is a racket. Understand your worth. Companies will pay you a lot of money to solve their problems.
- Breaking up with friends is normal and natural.
- Figure out what you’re good at, and do that. Only that. Just because you can do a lot of things, doesn’t mean that you should.
- Make difficult decisions sooner.
- You don’t know what you don’t know. And you take for granted things you do know. It’s called the curse of knowledge.
- Learn how to have difficult conversations.
- Work life balance is a myth.
- Tailor your message to your audience.
- When it comes to finding a new job, who you know is more important than what you know or any degree you may hold. It’s not the people you know. It’s the people they know who will change your life.
- Identify what you want and then ask for it. Don’t assume the answer will be “no.”
- Find a way to get your way.
- Decide what hills you’re willing to die on.
- Quit buying things. You don’t need anything you don’t already own. No “thing” will make you happier than you are right now..
- Quit things sooner.
- Ask for help. People want to help you.
- Learn how to self soothe without food or alcohol.
- Tim Gunn’s “Make it work” will become your motto.
- You’re smarter than most of the people in the large boardrooms you’re about to enter. You don’t need documentation to prove it.
- A strong healthy body is more important than fitting into size 8 clothes.
- Embrace failure. Fail faster.
- The world is changing. Learn to change with it. People will pay you a lot of money to teach them how to use social media platforms like Twitter that don’t even exist yet.
- You teach people how to treat you.
- Know your worth.
- You’re going to start your own business, and you’ll be wildly successful.
- Identify your board of trusted advisers.
- Let go of grudges.
- Entering your abundance era will change your life.
- You’ll continue to put yourself into the same situations until you learn the lesson.
- Stop playing small.
- Say Yes to things that scare you.
- Your unique value proposition is why people hire you.
- Ask yourself these questions.
- How do I solve the biggest problems that my stakeholders bring?
- What am I good at and why does it matter?
- Ask yourself these questions.
- Understand your target market.
- Power is not the same as influence. You have more influence than you realize. Lean into it.
- Loyalty and hard work aren’t rewarded like you were taught. Ask for the raise.
- Don’t assume the answer is no.
- Say the unpopular thing. You’ll be surprised at how many people are thinking it.
- Learn how to deal with conflict. Note to self: it won’t kill you.
- Don’t try to be something that you’re not. Be yourself.
What about you? What would you add to the list?
